Beginning/ Intermediate Students

Through lecture and hands-on sessions, students will learn the basics of using a wood lathe. On completion, students will be able to identify the parts of the lathe, carefully observe and apply the American Association of Woodturners’ safety guidelines, identify the basic woodturning tools and learn sharpening procedures. Experienced students will be able to work independently on self-selected projects. Students will need to purchase personal safety equipment and a few personal tools.

Students will provide their own tools, safety gear, and materials. Your instructor will review tools, materials, and supply needs with you on the first day of class. Wood kits provided by Wilmington Woodturners Association. Estimated initial cost of tools and materials: $100.00+. Please note, initial costs are higher for new students because essential starter supplies are required. 

This course has no requirements.
